Paper Architectonics

Supported by the Hampi Art Labs and the JSW Foundation

Artists’ Residency : June 2026

Outcomes to be presented at the India Paper Triennial

Curators : Meera Curam and Ankon Mitra

This is a unique collaboration between Hampi Art Labs and the India Paper Triennial, pairing Paper Artists and Architects to explore the sculptural, structural and poetic potential of paper. The residency format has already concluded and yielded powerful results during June 2026. The pairs created distinctive outcomes with paper as the primary material of the exploration, with some secondary supporting materials.

Inspired by the landscape, ecology, heritage architecture and visual language of Hampi, Vijaynagar and Anegundi, the works pushed boundaries, transforming a seemingly fragile medium into a site of experimentation, innovation and form-making. The works were installed first in the stunning landscapes of the Hampi Art Labs spaces for documentation – paper outcomes against a unique landscape. The designs created are modular and composed of a kit of parts, so they were then uninstalled with ease, and packed in a compact manner for transport to Delhi. The projects now await re-installation in Delhi at the India Paper Triennial. The forms created and the paper used thereof were treated for outdoor suitability, including resilience against wind, dust, humidity and dew.
